Practicing

Active Registration

Requirements

  • Graduate from Accreditation Canada HSO-EQual accredited Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS) education program;
  • Meets the English Language Proficiency requirements as outlined in BOA-17;
  • Passed the CSMLS MLT Entry to Practice exam;
  • Intends to practice as an MLT in Manitoba within the three month period following the date of the application;
  • Must not suffer from a physical or mental condition, disorder, or addiction to alcohol or drugs that makes it makes it desirable in the public interest that they not practice as an MLT;
  • Have worked at least 1,200 MLT Practice Hours as set out in Regulations, within the previous five-year period immediately preceding the date of application for the year in which registration is sought;
  • Participate in the CMLTM Continuing Competency Program and maintain a professional portfolio as approved by the Council from time to time (new graduates have 5 years to obtain the required Practice Hours and Continuing Education credits);
  • If the applicant was previously registered as a medical laboratory technologist in one or more other jurisdictions, he or she must provide proof of membership in good standing from all other jurisdictions in which he or she was registered during the past five years; (Letter of Standing)
  • Submit a current criminal record check (with vulnerable sector check), child abuse registry check, and adult abuse registry check upon initial application and every five years;
  • Complete the annual Declaration and Disclosure of Information questions (part of the application form);
  • Complete the on-line renewal along with paying the annual registration fee and other fees as prescribed by Council

Conditional Registration

Requirements

  • Intends to begin, as a recent graduate, mentored practice before taking the exam or while waiting for the exam results;
  • Graduate from an Accreditation Canada HSO-EQual accredited Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS) education program and eligible to write the CSMLS MLT Entry to Practice Exam;
  • Meets the English Language Proficiency requirements as outlined in BOA-17;
  • Intends to practice as an MLT in Manitoba within the three month period following the date of the application;
  • Must not suffer from a physical or mental condition, disorder, or addiction to alcohol or drugs that makes it makes it desirable in the public interest that they not practice as an MLT;
  • Submit a current criminal record check (with vulnerable sector check), child abuse registry check, and adult abuse registry check upon initial application and every five years;
  • Complete the annual Declaration and Disclosure of Information questions (part of the application form)

Non-Practicing

Inactive Registration

An applicant may apply for registration on the inactive register if they meet all of the criteria an Active registration and does not intend to practice medical laboratory technology in the three-month period following the date of application.

Note: Anyone registered on a practicing roster and does not intend to practice as an MLT for three or more months must contact CMLTM to have their registration converted to the Inactive (non-practicing) roster.

Student Registration

Students currently enrolled in Accreditation Canada HSO-EQual accredited Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS) education programs conducted in Manitoba including IEMLT bridging programs. Student applicants must provide evidence that they are currently enrolled in an MLS program.

Documents Required for Application

To apply for registration please complete and submit the following documents:

  1. Completed CMLTM Application Form (signed declaration and information release)
  2. CSMLS MLT Certification (Exam results and/or Certificate, for Active registration)
  3. Letter of Standing from all previously registered Canadian MLT Colleges in the previous 5 years (if applicable)
  4. Copy of MLT education/training transcripts
  5. CSMLS letter of eligibility to write the CSMLS exam or entrance to exam letter (applies for Conditional applications)
  6. Canadian government issued photo identification (driver’s license, Canadian passport or permanent resident card)
  7. Criminal Record Check (with Vulnerable Sector Check)
  8. Child Abuse Registry Check
  9. Adult Abuse Registry Check
  10. Applicable fees
  11. Evidence of English language proficiency (if applicable)

NOTE: Applicants that are or have been registered and are transferring from Provinces that regulates MLTs, must provide a Letter of Standing from every Provincial MLT regulator that they have been registered with for the previous five years.
